“The LORD himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”  Exodus 14:14  NLT

When Famous was less than a year old he accompanied me on a New Year’s Eve midnight run through a local park decorated with festive seasonal lights. You could sense his excitement as we were running with the pack in the middle of the night. About halfway through the run as we were passing in front of a large field, fireworks started exploding above us resounding with large booms. I distinctly remember him looking at me to discover what my reaction should be. Would I duck and hide? Would I turn around and run away? Would I scoop him up and cover his eyes and ears? No. I looked right into his eyes and told him we would just keep calm and keep running ahead. And that is what we did.

Sometimes we see the battle coming. Perhaps it is a personal confrontation or perhaps it is a national battlefield. But many times we are suddenly surprised by personal attack or insult. I admit it can be very scary if our first thought is “What am I to do?” But if we remember we are never alone, and that there is One who never leaves our side, then we can look for assurance He can guide us through the battle.

Lord Christ, keep my spirit calm so that I might be a ready warrior.
