“Jesus replied, ‘All who love me will do what I say. My Father will love them, and we will come and make our home with each of them.'”  John 14:23  NLT

It would be silly for me to assume Famous would do everything I tell him to because he loves me. Nonetheless, we have a bond that has been reinforced with repetitive training when it comes to obedience. His ability to follow commands and respond appropriately enhances our co-existence.

But there are times when trying to do what I say can cause mild distress. One sign of this might be a yawn. Dogs yawn for different reasons, but one reason would involve communicating disagreement or stress. I often notice it when we approach his favorite point of decision; that is, whether or not we cross the street to the park. There are many times when we turn back at the end of our street, often because I need to be somewhere else. It is apparent to me this is more disappointing to Famous if he resists a little as we reverse our course. I usually, then, give him a little verbal coaxing. This is often followed by a yawn before he falls in line and accompanies me back towards home, away from his beloved park of dog scents.

At times we may not instantly obey the will of the Father. Still, if we eventually do what is right, He will look with favor on our love for him.

Almighty God, help me to lovingly do Your will today.
