“Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.”  Ephesians 6:2-3  NLT

Famous is a great guest at family gatherings. Except for the occasional canine stretch up to the countertops replete with cooked meats and tempting morsels, he adapts well to new surroundings and crowds of people. He likes to keep me in his sight whether I am eating, sitting by the fire, or playing the piano, so I do not feel left out when siblings tote their families in for the reunion.

Promises are important for Christian living. Respect for those who have made sacrifices for us teaches us to work together to create a greater good and to promote a peaceful existence. We should be thankful for those who model God’s unconditional love.

Today and every day, teach me to recognize and give thanks for sacrifices made on my behalf, especially Christ’s sacrifice of love.
