“Then the angel showed me a river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. It flowed down the center of the main street. On each side of the river grew a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, with a fresh crop each month. The leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations. No longer will there be a curse upon anything. For the throne of God and of the Lamb will be there, and his servants will worship him.”  Revelation 22:1-3  NLT

I will forever have a profound appreciation for the entrance to our subdivision after the many daily walks that Famous and I make there. Beyond the bricked walls bearing the name of Polo Oaks there is a long drive flanked by camellia hedges and ornamental cherry trees that you cannot truly appreciate by driving by in a car. In the spring you might find yourself walking on a carpet of red petals or strolling through a snow globe of pink ones. In summer the trees provide shade from the heat of the sun. The autumn brings showers of falling gold and yellow leaves. And the winter gives the occasional postcard scene of a snowy lane. But on most mornings we arrive at the east-facing entrance to see our first glimpse of the sun, at least several minutes before its morning rays would find their way through the trees at the bottom of the hill where sits our home. Here we find evidence of a new day, and I delight in seeing Famous’ coat glowing in the new light and in feeling its warmth on my face even in the coldest of mornings. We rarely go beyond the entrance on our first morning walk, but many days Famous will linger looking towards the sun and the world that is beginning to come alive outside of our neighborhood. In some ways I think we are looking into the future to see if we can tell what this day will be like, what the years will bring, and what memories will be left behind when Famous no longer walks that path with me.

Perhaps Famous has helped me to find a promise of the heaven’s dawn upon the new Earth. On that morning, we shall find the river of life supplying goodness and healing. There will be no curse of disease or despair, and we will gather to worship the Lord of Lords upon his throne.

Show me the way to Your heavenly Kingdom by the thoughts and deeds You shine upon me today.
