“So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can.  And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God.”  Ecclesiastes 3:12-13  NLT

Famous helped me to officially open the summer grilling season tonight as we dined outside enjoying a warm evening with a light breeze. Of course, he was the one showing all the jubilation with his barking and running back and forth from the kitchen through the screen door to the deck and back again. He can really put on a show! With his bowls carried outside next to my table we enjoyed a grilled T-bone steak (his pieces were mixed into his dry food), and I surrounded mine with grilled corn and summer vegetables. But I  also understand the joy of celebrating his life and the bounty of gifting God has shown me through him.

God certainly intends for us to be blessed by him in this life. He wants goodness and joy to accompany us through our years. In their absence, He has also provided the hope and promise of a greater eternal life yet to come. But we should not live in idolatrous worship of “the good life.” God’s blessings equip us to share his love with those whose lives need his hope and assurance and blessing.

I celebrate the gift of life, the joy of expectancy, and the duty to instill in others the generosity of God’s love.
