“The eyes of the LORD watch over those who do right; his ears are open to their cries for help. But the LORD turns his face against those who do evil; he will erase their memory from the earth.” Psalm 34:15-16 NLT
We were having a stare off. I was settled on the couch, and Famous was resting on the floor when our eyes met. Our gazes fixed on one another, Famous intently watching me to see if I would give him any signal that something was about to happen. But no. I was just seeing who could win a stare off, and I enjoyed every second of his stare onto my face. Finally, when it became obvious I was staring for naught, Famous turned his head, laid back down and closed his eyes.
Does God only watch over those “who do right”? I believe God sees and knows all, and what the psalmist describes is the presence of God when deeds are done in his name. And for those who call upon the name of the Lord for help God will not be oblivious and remote. But for those who refuse to acknowledge God, it will be as if God never did exist.
Remember me, O God, and forget not all my deeds.
