“For as the lightning flashes in the east and shines to the west, so it will be when the Son of Man comes.  Just as the gathering of vultures shows there is a carcass nearby, so these signs indicate that the end is near. ‘Immediately after the anguish of those days, the sun will be darkened, the moon will give no light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.'”  Matthew 24:27-29  NLT

It was not a sure thing. For just a moment, the sun was predicted to be swallowed up entirely by the moon’s disc. I had been planning for an entire year to be strategically placed for what was a certain event–a total solar eclipse. What was not certain, however, was whether or not the cloud cover would cooperate.

Famous was with me in the path of totality as the sky darkened, the air cooled, and the sun disappeared (thanks to a hole in the clouds). Stars appeared in the daytime, and lightning flashed on the horizon. It was truly cosmic! But the moon’s shadow did not linger for longer than the two minutes which had been predicted. There was no shutting down of these giant forces in the solar system. So with all of the careful planning it could have easily been missed. But hopefully, it will never be forgotten.
How do we hold on to those significant moments where we feel God’s presence? More often than not we are unable to predict when God shall revealed himself to us. This is why we have to be vigilant in every moment for the stirring of the Spirit. There may be little warning, but like a cool breeze felt on the skin, you can discipline yourself to take note of something significant which is about to occur and may in fact only exist in a moment of opportunity. If we have positioned our hearts in an attitude of expectancy and receiving, God can show us truly wondrous works each and every day.

Guide my feet and my heart today, dear God, to be ready to see Your miracles.
