“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.”  Philippians 2:3-4  NLT

Those of us who have had any type of surgery or procedure know the feeling of letting others care for us and show concern for us. Imagine my surprise today when a patient of mine, quite satisfied with her own surgical outcome, asked not about her recovery and well-being, but asked me about Famous and how he was getting along! I took this as a sign she was doing very well in her recovery, but I was also humbled by someone who was, at least for a short time, in great need and was now inquiring about something precious to me.

I am convinced some people see themselves as the star of their own movies, always playing the leading roles and only handing out bit parts to others. They are not humbled before the Lord because they cannot find his greatness in his servitude. To think of others as greater does not belittle us. It opens our eyes and hearts to our common needs.

Help me to show genuine interest in the people which You bring across my path today.
