“Though the nations around us follow their idols, we will follow the LORD our God forever and ever.” Micah 4:5 NLT
Thoughts while walking Famous:
Let him set the pace. He sees things at a different view point and smells what I cannot smell.
Let him decide how far to go. I may be in a hurry, but he has been closed up in the house all day. This is his time for exercise and discovery.
Look for things I would regret not seeing if I were inside and not walking with my pet.
Remember to watch him walk. He has a grace about his gait. He responds when he steps into the wind or into the sunlight, and I plan to remember what that looks like for the rest of my life.
Always be aware of surroundings. Know where the curves in the road might hide oncoming traffic. Anticipate sudden reactions from other dogs we might encounter.
Be prepared. No matter what you encounter, be responsible for the safety and care of him. Be his ears when he is no longer able to hear the traffic or any of my commands.
Be compassionate and not critical when the walk leaves him soiled or dirty and in need of bathing or brushing before he can re-enter the house.
Let him walk the last 100 feet home off the leash if it is safe so that he might enjoy a moment of independence. And then praise him for following you home the rest of the way.
